“Know Love”: Week 1-Tuesday

Today’s Scripture: 1 John 1:5-2:2 (S.O.A.P 1:9)

5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

I got so much from this today – I’m not sure where to begin.
Jesus is the sacrificial lamb that took away the sins of the world. When we commit our lives to Christ we will rise to a new life of fellowship with Him. Sin must be confessed so it doesn’t put a barrier between us and God. Asking for forgiveness sets things right with our loving Father.
I am reminded of the double jeopardy law- it prohibits anyone from being prosecuted twice for the same crime. Christ is our judge and our advocate and has already suffered our penalty – we can’t be tried again for it.
Forgiveness and cleansing – these promises are as refreshing to the sinner as a cold drink of water is to a thirsty man.
David testified to the power of confession in Psalm 32. Sin affected him physically and he found relief only through full confession.
Psalm 32:1-8
Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and on whose spirit is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD” – and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.

We are restored by a loving Father who delights to shower the broken-hearted and repentant with His mercy and compassion.

Thank you Lord for the grace and mercy shown to this wretched sinner. I recognize my tendency to sin and I rely and cling to your power to overcome it.
May I draw ever closer to you and be refreshed and have joy complete.
