Friends, Paul isn’t teaching us to merely set aside ‘these things’ for a day, month, or even a year. He is telling us, actually warning us with great urgency, to do away with them or with anything that distracts us from God (a.k.a. things above).

You see, Christ is more than the giver and sustainer of life – He is our life.
Today’s passage makes it clear that it is equally, or perhaps even more important, to give as much concern to what we think about (set our mind on).
