A Love God Greatly Study: Preview for Week 1, In The Last Days

Our Verse for the Journey: Hebrews 10:24-25

For this journey our verse(s) come from week 6 of our study. I encourage you to write the verses down on a note card or even several cards so that you have one in your car, your kitchen, your bedroom, your desk at work …. wherever you frequently find yourself. Read it at least 3 times every day, and over the course of the 6-week journey, begin trying to remember the words or phrases without looking. Lean on the Spirit for help – after all, John 14:26 says that our advocate, the Holy Spirit, was given, not only to teach us all things but to REMIND us of all He said.

I hope you enjoyed the first week of Come, Lord Jesus, Come. From words of encouragement to insight on the last days and reasons to hold on to the HOPE that we have in Christ – it’s just the beginning of what I believe will be a wonderful journey toward His return. If you haven’t read week one, I invite you to scroll back through the recent posts for this study, beginning October 2, 2022, and glean from them in preparation for week 2 which starts tomorrow.

Your Turn: What was your favorite day or most notable quote or Scripture that inspired you to hold on to the hope that is ours in Christ Jess.

Jesus was faithful in proclaiming His return, which is why in week 2 we will continually read the statement, “I will come” or “I am coming” … followed by the word back or soon. The words belong to Jesus and to every believer that hears them – they offer encouragement and hope. Look for them, soak them up so that you might cling to the hope that is ours in Christ Jesus, and then imitate Him by faithfully sharing them with others. In this He will be honored and others will share in our hope, and to God will be the glory!

Me, from the inside-out

WEEK 2 CHALLENGE: Jesus promised that He is coming back. This week, write out how this promise influences how you live.

  • Does it make you more intentional?
  • Dose it help you to have greater hope for the future?
  • Does it place more passion and urgency on your days as you know the time draws near?

Verse For the Journey: How are you doing with our verses from Hebrews 10:24-25? Remember, the Bible says we are “temporary residents and foreigners” and to “keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.” (1 Peter 2:11-12) To do this in any measure of obedience or success, we must know and hold fast to God’s Word.

Reflection and Preview

A Look Back at week three

In week three we have seen everything from reconciliation to horrific revenge, the difference between choosing life and death, the benefit of holding on tightly to our faith, and the importance of being faithful even in a little thing. With all of these lessons we have seen the wisdom in choosing God instead of the world in our own lives.

A Look AheaD to week four

As we move into week four we will get to know Joseph and see his extraordinary reaction to the horrifying and challenging events of his life. We will read shocking details about the life of Judah, another of of Jacob’s sons, and get a glimpse of God’s fingerprints in the outcome generations later. We will also listen as Joseph moves from dreaming dreams to interpreting the dreams of others.

Choosing God Instead of the World – Recap of Week-2

A Love God Greatly Study

Reflections

This week, through the continuing saga of Jacob and his family we have learned the wisdom of setting our mind on Things Above instead of things on the earth that tend to draw us away from God. We have learned how God wants us to honor Him with what He’s given us, even when we aren’t completely satisfied with what that is. We’ve seen the difficulty and yet the benefits of loving others in the way we live and not just by the things we say. Without question, we have seen how we must trust God’s promises if we are going to choose His ways over the ways of the world, especially in times of fear and difficulty. On our final day – probably my favorite – and a great summation of the week – we witnessed God giving Jacob a new name and we learned that sometimes even when we walk away limping from a battle, prevailing can be determined by how long we stay in the battle. Those who hold on to God and don’t let go receive the blessing.

During our third week we will dive into Genesis 33 and wind up the week in Genesis 37 with the story of Joseph’s dream. , We will hear from authors of the New and Old Testaments along the way – as we continue to explore the ways and benefits of Choosing God Instead Of The World .

Reflections of Week 6, Beautifully Surrendered

Beautifully Surrendered, God’s Heart for His Daughters is a Love God Greatly Study

The women we’ve studied this week showed us that leaving a legacy of faith is important, not only for the lives of our own children but for the generations to come. From the mid-wives to the proverbs’ 31 woman we have seen that our faith has an impact on the lives of others. It became clear that it not only affects those close to us but the generations to come. This was especially evident in the lives of Lydia, Lois and Eunice, and excitingly evident in Mary Magdalene as she delivered perhaps the best news ever when she shared the news that Christ had risen, with her exclamation that she had seen the Lord!

.As with the other stories that we have read, they are certainly worthy of reading and sharing again and again. If for no other reason they will undoubtedly spark praise and joy in our own hearts as they refocus us not only on the greatness of our God but on the important role He has called us to play in His plan.

Leaving a legacy of faith may sound daunting and undoubtedly will not be without it’s challenges, but has as been pointed out this week – if we fail to do so, we put all of the generations coming behind us in certain danger of being like those in the day of Noah, whom the LORD saw and said that the wickedness of man was great upon the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was altogether evil all the time. The LORD regretted that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved His heart. Or, like the days when it was said of the Israelites that, after Joshua’s generation died, they did not know the LORD or any of the things he had done for Israel.

After a while the people of Joshua’s generation died, and the next generation did not know the LORD or any of the things he had done for Israel.

Judges 2:10

This is why I have said many times during the course of our study: Consider these stories and their truths often so that you do not grow weary and lose heart. Fix your eyes on Him and not the circumstances of Your life – only then will we truly live the beautifully surrendered life that God desires for His daughters. As we saw again and again over the past six weeks, the choice is ours. May we choose well – so that Jesus may say of us, “they chose the best part”.

Jesus, I Need You Part 1

6 Days

As I have been announcing, our next LGG Study will begin on August 8, until then I hope you’ll stay in the Word with me. On this leg of our journey we will follow the map of Scriptures laid out by Thistlebend Ministries, in their study, Jesus, I Need You. The study is intended to help us deepen our relationship with Jesus – and who doesn’t need to do that? You’ll need your Bible or your favorite Bible app, a notebook and pen. Beautifully Surrendered: Looking Ahead to Week 4

A Love God Greatly Bible Study about God’s Heart for His Daughters

In the coming week (week 4), we will look at what it means to be “Women of Surrender and Sacrifice”. We will build on knowing that God loves, sees, and cherishes women, and continue to focus on the fact that faith and prayer play a huge part in our surrender to God. With these things in mind we will understand and appreciate, perhaps more than we have before, how women like Esther, Moses’ mother, Mary – the mother of Jesus, and others all made the sacrifices required of them.

Our focus/memory verse is found in Luke 9:23 which is a very helpful description from Jesus to help us understand what we have to do to be a follower of Jesus. Like last week’s verse, this one is not incorporated into the study so , again, we will have to work extra hard to keep it fresh in our minds throughout the week. Don’t be surprised if you see it on the end of the daily posts. You’d be amazed at how seeing and/or reading something daily for five days helps us retain the message or truth posted.
