Question of the Day: How can God’s loyal love and faithfulness continually protect us?
Scripture for Today: Psalm 40:11-17 (S.O.A.P. Psalm 40:11)
Lord, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me.
Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me.
12 For troubles surround me—
too many to count!
My sins pile up so high
I can’t see my way out.
They outnumber the hairs on my head.
I have lost all courage.
13 Please, Lord, rescue me!
Come quickly, Lord, and help me.
14 May those who try to destroy me
be humiliated and put to shame.
May those who take delight in my trouble
be turned back in disgrace.
15 Let them be horrified by their shame,
for they said, “Aha! We’ve got him now!”
16 But may all who search for you
be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!”
17 As for me, since I am poor and needy,
let the Lord keep me in his thoughts.
You are my helper and my savior.
O my God, do not delay.
S: O LORD, You do not withhold Your compassion from me. May Your loyal love and Faithfulness continually protect me. Ps. 40:11
O: I notice three things that the Psalmist acknowledges – 1. God is compassionate (some translations say merciful), 2. His love is loyal (true or never ending), and He is Faithful. I also noticed that the writer turns this knowledge of God into a prayer for His life and present situation/condition.
A: 1. I think it is good and right for me to know God and His character – His desires for my life – and what displeases Him. So that I can pray accordingly. 2. Praying God’s Word back to Him is a great way to know that I am praying according to His will for me.
P: Father, Help me to live and to pray as this Psalmist – who, though aware of the dangers around him, turned his focus to You. And prayed – not with his focus on the enemy or the ensuing dangers but with his eyes on You and his heart TRUSTING in who he knew You to be. Help me to pray believing. In Jesus’ Name – can i get an AMEN!
