Memory/Focus Passage
Question of the Day: Why can we approach the Throne of Grace with confidence?
Today’s Scripture: Hebrews 4:14-16 (S.O.A.P. Hebrews 4:15-16)
Jesus Our Compassionate High Priest
Therefore since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help.[a]
Observation:
1. Christ is my Great High Priest – which means He serves as my mediator and atoning sacrifice before God. This is good news, because He was tempted in every way – like I am – and so He can sympathize with my weaknesses.
2 He was without sin – even better news, since that means His sacrifice wasn’t just the yearly variety of the typical High Priest but it is a ‘once-and-for-all’ acceptable sacrifice to God.
3 For these reasons we can come confidently before God knowing we will receive mercy and find grace because our mediator understands.
Application:
I want to keep a fresh awareness that when I approach God’s throne it can be with confidence because:
1. Christ is my mediator, He understands my weaknesses/temptations, and intercedes on my behalf
2. His sacrifice on my behalf is acceptable to God, the Father.
Prayer:
Father, Help me not to lose sight of Christ’s sacrifice on my behalf that gives me such bold access to you.
Amen
God’s throne will last forever. He will rein forever, he provides us all we need and will remain righteous.
