Road Map for the Journey: Lamentations 3:19-26; SOAP: Lamentations 3:21-23
Lamentations 3:21-23 ESV21This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
23They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
I’ve had these verses tucked in my heart since my senior year of high school, and over the years, God’s sweet Holy Spirit has brought them to mind more times than I can count. They have chased away fears, given me strength to stand when the ground around me felt like sinking sand, and calmed many regrets and disappointments. They have comforted me in times of grief and anchored me in hope when life’s storms raged around me. Seriously, friends, there is great power for every believer who doesn’t just know that God is faithful but stands upon this unfailing truth.
This is faithfulness. It is not the absence of pain or pretending that everything is okay. It is choosing in the middle of the painful, heartbreaking moments to anchor your heart to what you know is true about God, even when you don’t feel it. His mercies are new every morning. Yesterday’s failures do not define today. Yesterday’s pain does not have to set the tone for today, nor does it mean today’s will go unheard.
