Truth Over Lies: week 3

“LIES ABOUT YOU” (PART 1) Day2

THE LIE: “You Can’t Change”

Read: Hebrews 13:20-21; Philippians 4:13 and SOAP: Hebrews 13:20-21

THE TRUTH: Now may the God of peace who by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus, equip you with every good thing to do his will, working in us what is pleasing before him through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever. Amen!

Hebrews 13:20-21

Sometimes we experience something that grasps hold of us and we can’t seem to shake. We begin to believe the lie that we cannot change. We will always be a victim. We will always struggle with the addiction. Yet, God’s Word powerfully refutes these lies.

WE CAN BE DECEIVED BY LOVING THE WORLD
  • Read: 1 Jn 2:15-16 & 5:19, Col. 2:8, and 2 Tim. 3:15-16
  • SOAP: Colossians 2:8

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.

Colossians 2:8

What do you think? (share your comment below)

  • In what ways does the world lie to us?
  • How can we protect ourselves against those lies?

The world can look very attractive when we allow ourselves to forget that the world is in the power of the evil one.

In Jesus I Am … A Conqueror

Week 4, Day 5
READ AND SOAP: 1 JOHN 4:4

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

1 John 4:4 NLT

Reflection Questions:

  • How are you empowered to fight against the enemy’s schemes every day?
  • How can you overcome the enemy through the power of Christ?

Through our time together in this study on identity, we have learned that who we are is not about anything we have done, but who God is and what He has done for us.

In Jesus I Am … Empowered

Week 4, Day 4

READ: 1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-11, 2 CORINTHIANS 12:9; SOAP: PHILIPPIANS 4:13

For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13 NLT

Reflection Questions:

  • What does it mean that we are able to do all things through Christ?
  • How can you find peace in your weakness or in difficult circumstances knowing He is always working, even in your weakness?

In God’s kingdom, we are at our strongest when we are weak, and we are our most independent when we are dependent on God. Our verse today does not mean that we should do all things, but that we can find joy as we rely on God to empower and equip us to do the work He calls us to do.

Reflection Questions:

  • What specific good works have you seen God equip and prepare you for?
  • How have you seen Him work through your strengths and gifts to advance His kingdom or encourage others?

God will equip us for the work, not because He knows we can do it perfectly, but because we are His creation, masterfully, intentionally, and creatively designed.
