Peace of Mind

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Philippians 4:6-8

Paul taught the people of Philippi to not be anxious about anything. He encouraged them to talk to God about their concerns and needs, and to set their minds on things that are true and honorable, and right and pure, and lovely and admirable. They were told to think about things that are excellent and praiseworthy. It seems Paul had learned that the best way to put out the fires of anxiety is to change the focus of his mind. – Go ahead, give it a try – I promise it works!

Reflection: What do you think about when you become anxious? Is it a help or a hindrance to the peace we read about here in Philippians – peace that guards our hearts and minds?

Read today’s devotional to find out what we should do with all of our anxious thoughts –

Jesus, Light of the World

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

John 8:12

Father, You are Good. As James says, You are the giver of every perfect gift, James 1:17. You are the giver of the gift of LIGHT and LIFE to You be the glory. For in your goodness You have given us The Light that shines in the darkness. Light that leads to life according to John 8:12. Light that frees us to follow Jesus out of the darkness. It frees us to to be the light to the darkness around us, to love like He loves, to be kind and tenderhearted, forgiving others as You, in Your goodness, have forgiven us. It is a light, the only TRUE SOURCE OF LIGHT, that shines through us and leads others to You.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

Thank You for the ‘gift of Light’ that has led me to Life in Jesus Christ, and for the joy that comes from both. Joy that comes from not walking in the darkness but in the glorious light, and in the joy that comes from ‘life in Christ’, 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

2 Corinthians 5:17

Joy in Trials

Trials are a part of life but that doesn’t make them something we look forward to. Typically we avoid them at all cost and pray for relief when they come, but in today’s passage James instructs the believers to consider their trials opportunities for great joy. Is that even possible? Check out today’s LGG devotional to understand how it’s possible to experience joy even through trials – https://lovegodgreatly.com/devotional-the-greatest-gift…/

Hope in Salvation

From “The Greatest Gift Given” wk3d4 ( An LGG Study)

Read: Romans 8:18-25; SOAP: Romans 8:24-25

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Romans 8:18-25

Reflection:

  • How are hope and endurance connected?
  • Can you have hope without endurance?
  • Can you endure without hope?

Paul tells us to keep our hope fixed on what we can’t see—the perfect work of salvation that God is doing on our behalf

Hope In Christ

From “The Greatest Gift Given” wk3d3 ( An LGG Study)

Read: Romans 15:7-13; SOAP: Romans 15:13

Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.Christ the Hope of Jews and Gentiles For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name.” 10 And again it is said, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.” 11 And again, “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples extol him.” 12 And again Isaiah says, “The root of Jesse will come, even he who arises to rule the Gentiles; in him will the Gentiles hope.” 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Romans 15:7-13

Reflection:

  • What does it mean to abound in hope?

Gifts always require some kind of sacrifice, and in Paul’s letter to the Roman believers he reminded them that Jesus has given us the perfect example to follow.

Hope in the Promise

From “The Greatest Gift Given” wk3d2 ( An LGG Study)

Read: Hebrews 10:19-25; SOAP: Hebrews 10:23

19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Hebrews 10:19-25

Reflection:

  • How do you know that Christ is trustworthy?
  • How does his trustworthy character give you confidence as you hope in Him?

The gift of hope that God gives us is a solid foundation for our faith, because the promises God made to the men and women in the Bible show us His incredible promise-keeping character.

Hoping in God’s Love

From “The Greatest Gift Given” wk3d1 ( A Love God Greatly Study)

Read: Romans 5:1-11; SOAP: Romans 5:3-5

3Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Romans 5:3-5

Reflection:

  • How does suffering produce endurance?
  • Have you experienced this in your life?

“Our hope has nothing to do with the titles we hold, the work we do, how often we volunteer, or how well-behaved our kids are.”
